Immigration song Artist Statement
May 13, 2008My flash project shows many the different aspects of Miguel Casanova and his life before and after he came to America.
On the first page there is a picture of Miguel Casanova and there are several words on the page. Each word is a different color, symbolizing that Miguel Casanova is from Mexico. The pictures show different aspects of his life.
The picture of the shoes symbolize how Miguel had to walk many miles to get to where he is today. He had to work very hard to get to America and needed to keep on working at that level for him to be able to stay in America. The picture of his hands shows how he could never take a break from his work. Every day of his life he had to work and he would get tired of doing it, but he had to keep on pushing himself to get there. The blue rock shows the sadness he faced when he had to leave his son. The rock itself showed that he could never break down emotionally because he was a man. The reason the rock is blue is to show that deep down he was sad and wanted to cry and go back home. The last picture of Miguel and his wife shows the life he is living now. It shows that even after all the hard work it was worth it.
The music you hear on the first page is from Miguel’s favorite song and therefore people that are viewing this already get an idea of what kind of person he is. Every other slide has a song or his voice explaining how he felt during his period of time. Also helping support the story are pictures for the buttons as well.
Everything else on the page are pictures that I have taken. The reason I did this was so that it can feel more personal than your run of the mill pictures. Except for the pictures and the music, I made everything in flash. In many ways it’s a small flash website.
The message I want to spread with this small website is Miguel’s story. I want people to feel the hardness and sadness that he had to go through when he was coming to America. I want people to see and feel the same things Miguel did when he first came to America. I want to show his story.
